The Shape of the Wind Scarf
What would a scarf that mirrors the Shape of the Wind look like? It would sweep and float. It would be open so shy breezes can peak through. It would be strong and resilient. This scarf, this Shape of the Wind, is worked in a classic lace pattern – one that has lace worked on right side rows as well as wrong side rows. However, the lace work is bounded by rows of ribbing to create a shape that flows. Like the wind, this scarf is both complex and simple, the four-row repeat is easy to memorize while developing a complex, strong pattern, emboldened by the ribbing. Enjoy. And join me in a dance with the Shape of the Wind.
The scarf is worked using knit, purl, yarn overs, single and double decreases. The lace pattern is worked on both the right and wrong sides.
As envisioned, The Shape of the Wind scarf is a light, summer weight scarf. Gauzy and flowy. Yarn that is one color or gradual color changes will work well.
The scarf used 3 skeins of Coastal (206 yd/187m per skein) were used.
The 2 needle sizes allow the pattern to flow (lacework on US 6) and ribbing (US 4) to provide shape and movement.
