The Ursula Hat
THE URSULA HAT
Meet Ursula. Soft, warm, and wonderfully wearable. The Ursula Hat has depth, texture, and visual interest to spare, thanks to a simple twist on classic seed stitch. Knit the longer version, then go ahead and roll up that brim—the crown hugs the head perfectly. Prefer a slouchier hat? No problem. Knit the shorter version (sans brim) for a relaxed hat with a modern fit.
YARN
A total of 160 (180) yds / 145 (165) m of a soft & lofty worsted/Aran weight yarn (blown and/or chainette yarns both work well); half in MC + half in CC. The smaller amount is for a slightly slouchy hat with no brim. The larger amount is for a fitted hat with fold-up brim.
Shown in Katia Concept Cotton Merino (70% Cotton, 30% Merino Wool); 115 yds (105 m) / 50 g.
NEEDLES
Size US 8 (5 mm) 16”/40 cm circular needle (body).
Size US 8 (5 mm) double-pointed needles x 4 (crown).
GAUGE
17 stitches & 31 rounds = 4” (10 cm) in Seed Stitch, after blocking.
FINISHED MEASUREMENTS
19” (48 cm) circumference x 9” (10.5”) / 23 (27) cm length, after blocking. To fit approx. 22” (56 cm) head circumference.
FIND YOUR PERFECT FIT
The stitch & round multiples on which URSULA is based are now included in the pattern. For less experienced knitters who want to make a different size, the math is now provided. More experienced knitters can use this same information to make decisions about yarn substitution, gauge etc. I hope this helps empower you to understand your knitting better and to find your perfect fit!
