This pi shawl relies on the beautiful math by Elizabeth Zimmerman to create a lacy piece that lays lightly on the shoulders and can be worked with a variety of yardages. The intent behind this particular design was to take advantage of our subtle gradients; long, slow, subtle colour changes that would not be adversely impacted by the dramatic increase sections. The pattern is written for a 500 yard shawlette, as well as for 800 and 1200 yard shawls.

Simple lace and easy repeats adorn the main body and the edging is written so you and knit until you run out; allowing you to get maximum use of the gradient. An easy variation of a picot bindoff gives you little points that you can pin out while blocking.

She is inspired by my time in Istanbul and the opportunity we had to witness the meditative beauty of a traditional Whirling Dervish performance.

You will need:

1 fingering weight skein of Blue Brick yarn in Husky (500 yards), Mammoth (800 yards) gradient or Beast Mode (1200 yards) OR 500, 800 or 1200 yards of fingering weight yarn.
