Thin Ice
Thin Ice was created out of my love for the juxtaposition of lace and textures. It is a half circular pi style shawl. The one shown blocked to 60 inches wide and 30 inches long. I hope you enjoy knitting it as much as I enjoyed designing it!
Thank you so much to my wonderful testers! Lemonsong, Naturallyknitty, Mygirlrobot, and Phobbs1 are wonderful!
A note about yardage and size:
I knit my shawl using less than 800 yards and got the size of 60x30 inches. Because many people seem to be running out of yarn, I am changing the project page to state 800-1,000 yards are required for the shawl. There are modifications below if you find yourself running out of yarn or would like to make a smaller shawl. I have also edited the pattern to reflect these changes. Thanks!
For a slightly smaller shawl, I would knit the pattern to row 204 and instead of doing row 205, skip to row 245 and follow the rest of the rows from there.
A note about yarn choice and modifications for ease of blocking:
You want to use a wool or other fiber that has a lot of stretch in order to block this shawl. If you are using a non wool substitute (or struggle with blocking), you may want to add an extra yarn over to the edge of every row of the shawl that would then be dropped on the following row of the pattern. This will allow you to have some extra give in your shawl for blocking.
