This Scrappy Heart Shawl
STORY
I initially created this shawlette for the TRIA LAB, a workshop series to explore triangular shawl shapes.
Lab partners in the TRIA LAB learn several basic triangular constructions and deep dive into the possibilities of improving them.
I needed to find an example of an advanced symmetrical triangular construction. At the same time, I was wondering what to do with all the mini skeins from last year’s advent calendar and had a collaboration for another design with Qing Fibre in place. The summer holidays were around the corner, and an easy-to-knit shawl design felt like the right thing to do. One thing led to the other, and this fun pattern was born.
CONSTRUCTION
Start with a garter tab cast on and work the whole body from the top down. Change your colors as you like – there are instructions on building a fade with striping or marling. The last thing to do is the border, one side after the other, until you bind off at the bottom tip.
SIZES
As this pattern is written like a recipe, you can knit your item as small or as big as you want. Create a mini shawl as an add-on for your gift wrap, dolls, stuffed animals, or a shawl, shawlette, or bandana for yourself.
