Thistle Tee - kids
This pattern will have a matching adult pattern with 14 sizes for bust circumference 80-153cm/32-60” (to be published July 1st). You can buy the 2 of them as a booklet for only 10 EUR.
If you buy only the child pattern, but at a later point decide to get the adult one, you will get a 3 EUR discount (applied automatically).
Construction:
The tee is knit mainly top-down, straight, with optional purl ridges along the main body to give it a lightly tailored look (without actual waist shaping!):
- Work the circular yoke flat sideways in garter stitch (using short-rows for shaping, incl. raised back-neck, and creating the print). Seam it together at center back and decorate the neckline with an applied I-cord for stability. Children sizes up to 6-7 years have 1 button at the back to go over the head easily.
- Pick up yoke edge stitches & knit the body top-down in the round with purl ridges continuing the yoke print.
- The hem is worked sideways in garter stitch to match the yoke (you can also choose to stripe it, continuing the established vertical lines). Finish knitting with I-cord edges along the hem and armholes.
You can choose out of 3 main color options (feel free to improvise further!): the yoke uses 2 colors (main - MC, contrast - CC), the body can be knit in any of those, or a 3rd one!

Sizes: the pattern includes 6 children sizes: 1-2 (3-4, 5 /6-7/ 8-9, 10-12) years, or 52-75cm/20-30” bust. You can see the standard sizes in the table & schematic in the pattern photos. The pattern also includes instructions on how to adjust for non-standard height to bust circumference ratios.
Yarn: fingering to sport-weight yarn with high linen content (~300-320m/330-350 yds per 100g/3.5oz) in 2 or 3 colors (you will need a total of 100-200g/3.5-7oz, see requirements per size & color-blocking option in the pattern photos!).
You can also replace with cotton, yardages may vary.

Needles:
- Main: 3.25mm/US 3 (or size to get gauge!) circulars on a 60-80cm/24-32” cable;
- I-cord/hem: 3mm/US 2.5 (or 1 size smaller than the main) circulars on a 60-80cm/24-32” cable;
- For the hem, you might want to use an additional 3mm/US 2.5 DPN to make it less fiddly.
Notions: waste yarn, crochet hook, stitch markers, row counter (optional), tapestry needle, scissors, 1 button (up to & including size 6-7 years).
Gauge: (per 10x10cm/4x4” after wet blocking)
- Garter stitch: 22 stitches by 23 ridges (46 rows);
- Stockinette: 24 stitches by 32 rows
