This pattern is part of a “design workshop”, which aims to help you learn to use a single stockinette based pattern to create different sweaters using stripes, intarsia, and faire isle. There are 3 examples given, with accompanying instructions: Striped, Heart, and Ring a Ring of Roses.

  • Yardage given is for a single-color version.

  • The Striped sweater uses different colours in various stripes and has garter stitch edgings. Try different colours and vary the width of the stripes until you have the desired effect. The edgings could be changed to moss st. or be knitted with a K1,P1 or K2 P2 rib.

  • The motifs on the Heart sweater are knitted using the intarsia technique, this does not alter the overall tension if knitted correctly, sothe heart motif (or the motif/motifs of your choice,) can be placed anywhere on the chart.

  • The Ring a Ring of Roses sweater uses the fairisle technique for the border. Fairisle does alter the tension of the knitting, making the border of this garment slightly narrower.
