Three of Clubs
After working a no-image-included edging pattern from 1892 Butterick’s The Art of Knitting, p.88, I realized it wasn’t good looking. I changed so many things in the pattern to make it more presentable that it couldn’t be considered an authentic Victorian pattern anymore.
This narrow edging starts with 8 stitches, increases to 10 stitches in row 3, then returns to 8 stitches in row 6 for the next repeat. There are 6 pattern rows. The edging is 1.25 inches wide at gauge.
Skills needed: cast on, slip, knit, purl, YO, YO twice, k2tog and bind off.
Gauge is not important in this pattern. Any block-able yarn/thread will work. Make a swatch to check gauge and appearance. Above photo shows swatch with #40 thread and U.S. #0000 needles (1.25mm).
18 yards of Aunt Lydia’s Classic 10 thread will make 10 inches of this edging at gauge.
