Inspired by the stars and the beautiful colour possibilities, Three Sisters is a modern twist on a classic semi-circle shawl. With an easy texture design that continues throughout all sections of the shawl, a simple colour-blending mosaic, and basic lace at the outer edge, the chevrons within this shawl create a distinctive and fascinating shape. The textured ridges are designed to subtly emphasise the shape throughout the shawl as it grows to the pointed edge. Three Sisters is versatile to wear; it can be worn in a bandana-style around the neck, as a wrap front or back or around the shoulders, and looks spectacular when wrapped around the shoulders with a shawl pin to hold it in place. With a shape that is unique but timeless, Three Sisters can be dressed up or down to be suitable for a real range of outfits and occasions.

Three Sisters is, like all my patterns, easier to knit than it looks. Three Sisters uses mosaic knitting for the two-colour section, meaning that only one colour is worked with at a time, and the lace section is simple and accessible for knitters who have never worked lace before. This means that the pattern is suitable for a wide range of knitters, including adventurous beginners. With shawl shaping established early in the main body, the same pattern of increases and decreases continue throughout the shawl. This means that there are many stretches of relaxing knitting throughout the shawl with a few rows of mosaic, increases and lace to keep the project interesting without it being overly complex.

Three Sisters is a celebration of collaboration with some amazing women I am lucky enough to call my friends. First time trying mosaic knitting or lace?
Three Sisters is suitable for adventurous beginners. The pattern comes with a video tutorial that demonstrates all the main techniques needed for this pattern including the cast on, increases and decreases used. Both the mosaic and lace are simple patterns, suitable for people who are trying to add these techniques to their repertoire. The pattern does assume that you know how to knit, purl, slip st, make yarn overs and count. All other techniques are demonstrated in the pattern support.

Gauge is not crucial for this project, though it will change the final dimensions and yarn usage. Information on how to swatch for this project is included in the pattern support.

3.5mm circular needles long enough to hold 580 stitches (recommended minimum 100cm length)

Fingering weight / 4-ply.
Sample shown in Happy-Go-Knitty Sikkim 480m / 120g (65% merino, 20% silk, 15% yak) and Yarnfloozy silk/merino (50% superwash Merino, 50% silk) 400m / 100g. Sample uses 1 skein each of Forest Floor (Happy-Go-Knitty Sikkim, Colour A) and Mignonette (Yarnfloozy silk/merino, Colour B).
