How to crochet a fun clutch that uses the mosaic crochet technique. Don’t let it scare you! It’s comprised of simple single crochet stitches, chains and easy double crochets.
I am not a purse type of gal, and don’t intend on carrying this around in that manner, but rather as a larger clutch that will hold my notebook, and pouch of hooks, pencil and notions.
Make a matching Through the Window Cosmetic Bag or Hook Pouch.
Is it cold in your neck of the woods?
You can make a matching Twisted Through the Window Earwarmer, or Through the Window Scarf.
Materials:
- 230 yards of Worsted Weight Yarn - I used Lily Sugar n Cream in Ecru and Mod Blue
- H8/5mm Crochet Hook
- Tapestry Needle
- Optional, Jewelry Pliers
- Optional, Stitch Marker
- Optional for Lining: Fabric, Zipper, Sewing Machine &/or Needle & Thread (I used a 10.88” wide by 9.25” tall pre-made bag that I stuck inside & then sewed in place)
Material Notes:
Yarn Alternatives: Bernat’s Handicrafter, Paintbox Cotton, Rico Creative Cotton, Red Heart Smoothie, WeCrochet Dishie
I recommend cotton yarn because it’s more durable, and this bag will most likely see a lot of use, and being pulled and pushed around in a larger bag/purse.
Weaving in ends of a tough yarn, like cotton yarn, can be hard on the fingers. Sore thumbs and frustration can be a thing of the past by simply using jewelry pliers to carefully help pull the tapestry needle through the work.
Time Spent:
Just under 3 hours.
Measurements:
10.63” Wide by 9.75” Tall
Gauge:
16 HDC by 10 Rows = 4”
Abbreviations (US Terms):
- HDC - Half Double Crochet
- DC - Double Crochet
- SC - Single Crochet
