I designed this pattern for my construction worker husband. He wanted a pair of gloves that were warm and insulated for the cold weather. However in order to do his construction work, he did not want his fingers covered. In order for these gloves to be durable enough for construction work, I needed a durable worsted weight yarn. Canadian made Briggs and Little TUFFY yarn is perfect for this project!

This pattern uses unspun roving Thrums that are attached to the body of the glove while knitting. I believe that this technique originated in Newfoundland. It produces a wonderfully soft and warm insulation/padding to the glove.

There are many methods of making the Thrums, and also many techniques for attaching them. For this pattern I have used Briggs and Little Country Roving. This yarn has 5 unspun strands. I cut the roving in 4 inch lengths, separated the strands, combined 2-3 strands together, folded the combined strands in half and then looped the folded strands around my needle when attaching them. This produced a very even gauged Thrum that was not too thick or too thin.
