Time for Coffee Shawl
An easy, striped shawl for using up some of your precious single skeins from your stash. Alternatively you can use a mix of leftover yarns you have from a previous project.
Try out some of these combinations:
- use only one yarn - semisolid, or something with long colour change
- use a solid with a colour changing - on the edge use the colour changing or the semisolid.
- use two semisolids
- or be wild: use two colour changing yarns from the same colourway or even from different ones!
What you choose will define the effect you get. It can be anything from fun to elegant.
It’s warm, light and drapes well. The shawl is crescent shaped, with a perpendicularly attached edging, and needs hardly any finishing.
The body is quick and easy to knit and although the edging needs patience and it takes a lot of time, it is really interesting and not at all boring.
Size:
see on the second picture
Difficulty, skills needed:
Advanced.
Yarn used for sample:
MC: Alize Cashmira Fine (450m/100g, 100% wool), colour code: 01,
CC: Garnstudio Drops Delight (175m/50g, 75% wool, 25% polyamid), colour code: 10
Yarn requirements:
600-700m
MC: 185-220 yards 170-200m
CC: 470-500 yards 430-460m
If you knit with two colors, 70% of the whole amount is the color you knit the border, and 30% from the other color. You can adjust the pattern. For the border you will need ca 55% of the yarn from that color you knit the border. It makes sense sometimes to check the remaining yarn.
Needles:
US2.5 (3mm) circular needle, min. 100 cm long (or any sze that suits your chosen yarn)
Notions:
cable needle, tapestry needle, blocking pins.
Gauge:
not crucial but will effect the finished size and needed amount of yarn.
