Timeline of a Distraction
Billowing lace, nupps and Estonian traditions. A beautiful distraction during interesting times.
Yarn: One 800 metre skein of laceweight yarn, or approx. 777 metres.
Gauge: 2 repeats of the paw pattern in Chart A is 14 sts and measures approximately 9 cm. #0 row (2 vertical repeats of the paw pattern (eg rows 9-37) measure approx. 9.5 cm.
Skills: Lace is worked on right side rows only. Nupps are included, but you can easily replace nupps with beads, or omit them altogether. If you do wish to embark on your first nupp journey you MUST work them loosely when you make them so that you can insert the needle to purl all 7 loops together on the following wrong side row. It gets easier with practice.
Mine measures 94 cm deep by 210 cm wide at the top edge, using Isager Alpace lace and 3.75 mm needles. You may need to use a different needle size depending on your gauge and yarn, but with a laceweight yarn you should still be able to complete this project with one 800 metre / 100 gram skein of laceweight yarn.
