To Arrive Where I Began
Every path crossing is a portal to a different place in the universe!
These elbow-length arm warmers are magical! They protect you from the cold and relieve anxiety, at least for me. They also contain a secret, a road map back home from wherever you are and a trace of all the paths you’ve taken and portals you’ve gone through, no matter where you’ve been.
The sleeves are knitted as mirror images. The cable panel runs on the front of the arm and new cables emerge from the inner side of the arm, like they would come from your heart. The variegating colors tell their own story of different times in your life, whether happy or crappy, it’s all there on your life’s path.
The inspiration for these came from a mix of my Viking heritage with the cables and shape of the Viking arm shield. The colors and the rustic nature of the yarn inspired me to create something magical!

PATTERN NOTES
-
The arm warmers are knitted from the knuckles to the elbow.
-
They’re knitted both in the round and flat. First the palm is knitted in the round up to the thumb hole. The thumb hole is then made by knitting flat; the hole forms naturally when turned at the end of each row. The thumb hole is shut by switching back to knitting in the round.
-
The mitts are a mirror image of each other
-
The shape is somewhat like an hourglass that is longer on one end. The shaping at the wrist is made with the cables as they pull the fabric in a bit. The widening at the forearm is made with lifted increases every 4th or 6th round.
-
To make smaller, go down a needle size and use thinner yarn.
