Tobermory Tam
Note that this pattern is available from Creative Yarns (Scarborough, Ontario) free with purchase of yarn.
A Scottish tam, like the French beret, is a style of hat with a flat top and extra width at the sides, so it can be styled in different ways. It is particularly easy to wear, and suits most face shapes. If you think you don’t look good in hats, try a tam!
This version uses traditional Scottish tam shaping and stitch patterns. It is named for the small village of Tobermory, Ontario, where I was spending time when I designed it.
Pattern is for one size (adult medium), but can be resized for smaller or larger (adult) heads by adjusting gauge.
Pattern can be worked with two, or four different colours. It needs:
• 25g (140m) of BC Garn Bio Shetland (280m/50g) in one main pattern colour (MC) AND
• 25g (140m) of BC Garn Bio Shetland (280m/50g) in one or three complementary background colours (BC, or BC1, BC2, BC3)
