Top-Down Cardigan

Top-Down Cardigan is a sumptuously soft and chunky cardigan knit in our classic Merino No. 5 yarn. As the name denotes, it’s knit top-down in one piece with familiar raglan shaping and, of course, we have video tutorials to walk you through any new-to-you techniques. It’s the cardigan counterpart to our Top-Down Sweater, and is just as enjoyable to knit and to wear!

Pattern Level: Intermediate

Sizes: XS (S, M, L, XL, 2X/3X)

Materials:

• 5 (5, 6, 7, 7, 8) balls Loopy Mango Merino No. 5 Yarn 74 yds 68 m | 150 g 5.3 oz each, 100% merino wool
• Size US 17 (12 mm) circular needles 32’’ (80 cm) in length
• Size US 19 (15 mm) circular needles 32’’ (80 cm) in length

Note: for sleeves you will need to use magic loop method when using size US 19 (15 mm) circular needles 32’’ (80 cm). To avoid magic loop for sleeves you can use an additional size US 19 (15 mm) 20’’ (50 cm) circulars OR US 19 (15 mm) DPN’s.

For the cuffs you will need to use magic loop method when using size US 17 (12 mm) circular needles 32’’ (80 cm). To avoid magic loop for cuffs you will need to use an additional set of size US 17 (12 mm) DPN’s.

Gauge:

Stockinette on size US 19:
6 sts/4”, 9 rows/4” when knitting flat for the body for the sleeves when knitting in the round
6.5 sts/4”, 10 rows/4” for the sleeves when knitting in the round - your gauge will be tighter when knitting in the round because there are no purl rows

1x1 Rib stitch on size US 17: 8.5 sts/4”, 10 rows/4”

Size XS: Width: 24” (61 cm), Length: 16.5” (42 cm)
Size S: Width: 25.5” (65 cm), Length: 17.5” (44 cm)
Size M: Width: 26.5” (67 cm), Length: 18.5” (47 cm)
