This is an elegant, sophisticated shawl in a triangle shape with the top (bind off/cast off) edge being tighter than the cast on edge. Blocked in a semi-circular shape at the top, this shawl is easy to wear around your neck or even tied around your waist. The shape is achieved using wraps and turns and short rows. These technique directions are included in the directions and are not as hard as they sound!

The shawl yarn I used is Katia’s Air Lux; it has a sexy shimmer and is oh so soft. The main yarn is deep burgundy viscose and has a lovely shine. The yarn also has a soft, fluffy black halo. Really pretty and unusual. The viscose adds a fabulous drape adding to the overall drama in this design.

You will begin at the bottom edge and work up until you bind off. This puts the bind off at the top and it is less elastic than the cast on edge. So you can flare out the shawl at the bottom when blocking in a gentle semi-circle at the top tighter edge. This technique makes it easier to wear.

I chart my own lace for the vast majority of my designs and this shawl is no exception. It’s not a difficult lace, using only k, p (all wrong side rows are purl), k2tog, ssk, and yo. Each row is easy to memorize.

This would make a truly lovely gift for someone special or a glorious indulgence for yourself!
