About this design: when dh and I spent time in Glasgow, Scotland, back in 1998, we visited the Glasgow School of Art and the Scotland Street School Museum. Both of these places were redolent with the work of architect and designer, Charles Rennie Mackintosh. The colors and the stylized work of this archetype of the early 20th century modern art scene has fascinated me ever since. When dh and I were visiting the National Gallery of Art in Washington D.C. earlier this year, I spotted a tile (you can see it in the photos attached) and fell in love with the style again.
This three-quarter sleeve, yoke sweater is the result of my trying to re-create the Mackintosh style … a style a dear friend who lives in Inverness Scotland calls “Toshie”. Thus, the Toshie Poppie was born! Enjoy knitting this piece … and if you are ever in Glasgow, be sure to visit these museums (as well as the other amazing places) in this gorgeous part of Scotland!
