Touch of Kindness
Touch of Kindness blanket is a modern, textured blanket knitting pattern featuring a repeating geometric triangle design. The 10-row repeat stitch pattern is worked entirely in knit and purl stitches, creating a fully reversible blanket that looks the same on both sides. Easy to knit for a confident knitter, the pattern is engaging to work and rewards attention to detail.
Instructions are included for six blanket sizes, allowing knitters to choose the size that best suits their project. The stitch pattern shows best when worked in a solid-color worsted or Aran #4 weight yarn with good stitch definition.
It is said that kindness is always in season. When I designed this pattern in 2020, it seemed that our awareness of the need for kindness, patience and empathy was heightened. As I knit this little blue blanket, the repeating triangles in this design made me think of reaching our arms out to one another… with a touch of kindness.
DIRECTIONS FOR SIX BLANKET SIZES:
Approximate sizes after blocking…
Baby Blanket: 24.5” wide x 26.5” long
Small Blanket: 27” wide x 31” long
Medium Blanket: 31.5” wide x 33” long
Large Blanket: 36” wide x 41” long
XL Throw: 41” wide x 50” long
XXL Afghan: 45.5” wide x 53” long
Finished size may vary depending on yarn weight and gauge used.
Any of the sizes may be made longer by adding pattern repeats. Each pattern repeat adds about 1.5” to the length of the blanket. Pattern includes estimates for additional yardage needed to make each size longer.

Small: 610 - 640 yards
Medium: 760 - 800 yards
Large: 1070 - 1120 yards
XL: 1500 - 1600 yards

I used Blue Sky Fibers ‘Sweater’ heavy worsted / Aran yarn in the ‘Sea Horse’ colorway.
This pattern will work well with many worsted or Aran #4 weight yarns. Solid color yarn recommended for best appearance of stitch pattern.
The pattern may also be used with slightly lighter or heavier weight yarns.
GAUGE:
Stockinette stitch with US size 8 needles: approximately 16 stitches & 23 rows = 4”
Exact gauge is not essential. This stitch pattern looks best with fairly tight stitches.
I used US size 8 knitting needles. Choose the needle size that gives the best appearance with your yarn and your knitting tension.
NEEDLES:
Blanket knit flat, in one piece, back and forth on circular knitting needles in order to accommodate the large number of stitches.
SKILL LEVEL: Easy for a confident knitter
You will need to know how to cast on stitches, knit and purl confidently, read a row by row knitting pattern, bind off stitches and weave in ends.
Blocking of finished knitting is highly recommended. See my website for step-by-step tips and photos.
This pattern uses standard U.S. knitting terms.
Written pattern with row by row instructions.
