Toula the Columbian Toucan
I’ve always wanted to make a Toucan. I love their colours and their look just intrigues me.
Toula the Columbian Toucan, as part of my #amigurumiworldfriends collection, was inspired by a photo of a proud Columbian lady in all her ruffles. Reds, yellow, orange and green - she looked strong, powerful and wise.
I’m so happy with how Toula turned out - I don’t even regret using black yarn! But I think she would look great in either a deep purple or blue too.
The yarn thickness and hook size used will affect the size of the finished item. My Toula the Columbian Toucan is approximately 23cm tall (9 inches).

Notes:
A yarn with no stretch is best for amigurumi, I ordinarily use cotton or cotton blend.
Amigurumi is usually stitched in the round (unless it says otherwise).
I crochet loosely and use a 2.75mm hook with 8ply yarn. Generally, the hook you use for amigurumi will be a smaller than for other crochet as you want the stitches tight.
To change colours, yarn over on the stitch prior with the new colour to ensure you have that colour on the hook for the stitch you need it for.
For this pattern, the following yarns were used:
o WHITE = Paintbox Yarns Cotton DK in Col. 401 Paper White
o YELLOW = Paintbox Yarns Cotton DK in Col. 423 Buttercup Yellow
o ORANGE = Paintbox Yarns Cotton DK in Col. 420 Blood Orange
o BLACK = Paintbox Yarns Cotton DK in Col. 402 Pure Black
o RED = Paintbox Yarns Cotton DK in Col. 414 Rose Red
I have embroidered the eyes for this pattern. Please ensure that there are no loose fittings.
