Pattern Description from A Fine Fleece: “The Town & Country cardigan and pullover duo are classic examples of how a sweater can change expression with the choice of yarn, specifically with fiber and color. I set out to design the quintessential Aran sweater with all the hallmarks of what we recognize in Irish fisherman knits. The daintiness of the cardigan is due to the exquisite blend of 50 percent Jacob lambswool and 50 percent alpaca. While cable knitting is generally better suited to smoother yarns, the softness of the alpaca halo gives a dreamlike quality to the stitches. The Jacob lamb fleece was my very first fleece purchase, and I carefully separated the white wool from the black to keep this sweater as white as possible. It still has the faintest tint of gray, as opposed to the creaminess of most white sheep’s wool. I like to imagine an alternate countrified version of the cardigan, knit longer and oversized and in a more rustic wool, for a cozy sweater coat. The denim blue pullover is a perfect weekend sweater for guys or girls. An easy-wearing classic wool, such as Cascade 220 allows the cables to pop but is still very soft and comfortable to wear. Again, changing the length and the wearing ease of this pullover can greatly change the overall effect.”
