Town Hat
Not everyone looks good in all hats. Some of us, especially those of us with smaller features and/or a smaller head, do not look our best in tams, touques, or slouches. But we can look great in a tidy, smaller-fitting hat. Since I am one of these people, this hat shape was a wonderful discovery!
Why did I call it a town hat? I have a farmer friend who never leaves the house without a hat. But his farm hats get pretty grungy! So, for trips to town, he keeps one of these tidy little hats in the car … and calls it his town hat. And to be honest, this is probably not the hat for cross-country skiing or a brutally cold day in the country. But it is perfect for a town run.
This hat can, of course be made in only one colour—without the two-colour work. Or it can be made in two colours—main colour plus only one alternate colour for the C2 work. But I preferred to put my leftover Shetland bits to make the hats with four colours. The pattern is written to be worked this way.
SIZES
Child (adult)
Circumference 18½ (21½)” (46.5 54.5cm)
Height 7½ (8½)” (19 21.5cm)
• This hat can be stretched to fit a larger head. But the other accommodation to a larger head would be to knit the body a little taller—before beginning the crown shaping.
