Transcendence is worked in the mosaic crochet style, inspired by Tinna Thórudóttir Thorvaldsdóttir’s beautiful Havana Afghan (https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/havana-afghan-cal).

This is an intermediate level pattern in US terms with written directions for each row and a chart for the pattern repeat. Requires chain, slip stitch, single crochet, and double crochet stitches.

Each row is worked in only one color of yarn. Yarn is cut at the end of each row and work is not turned after each row.

A double border in double crochet stitches worked from both the front and back sides of the blanket encases the yarn tails at the start and end of each row.

You can make a smaller or larger blanket by adding or removing pattern repeats. The pattern has instructions for a baby blanket size too.

Transcendence uses two yarns, Yarn A and Yarn B. Yarn A creates the raised diamond texture. Yarn B is the background yarn.

You can use any yarn you like. Use the hook size recommended on the yarn label. Be aware that your blanket may be larger or smaller than the dimensions listed here if you use a different yarn or hook size. It is okay if your Yarn A and Yarn B do not match in weight or texture. For example, you could use worsted or aran yarn for Yarn A and dk weight yarn for Yarn B.

For a baby blanket in dk weight yarn:
25 inches (64 cm) square
You will need about 470 yards (430 m) of Yarn A.
You will need about 208 yards (190 m) of Yarn B.
The baby blanket sample used Bernat Baby Sport yarn in White as Yarn A and scraps of Lion Brand Mandala yarn in rainbow colors as Yarn B.

For a throw blanket in dk weight yarn:
42 by 54 inches (107 by 137 cm)
You will need about 1,179 yards (1,440 m) of Yarn A.
You will need about 832 yards (761 m) of Yarn B.
The dk weight throw blanket sample used 4 cakes of Ice Yarns Cakes Baby Fine in bright colors as Yarn A and 3 skeins of Caron Simply Soft in Black as Yarn B.

For bulky/chunky weight yarn:
50 by 92 inches (127 by 234 cm)
You will need about 2,000 yards (1829 m) of Yarn A.
You will need about 1,400 yards (1,280 m) of Yarn B.

The bulky weight sample blanket was made with:
Yarn A: Red Heart Hygge yarn in color Indigo. Bulky weight. 70% acrylic, 30% nylon. 141 g/5 oz., 121 m/132 yards per ball. 15 balls: 1,980 yards (1,815 m). This yarn has a soft, fluffy, eyelash texture. www.yarnspirations.com

Yarn B: Ice Yarns Camilla Cotton yarn in 11 colors held doubled. Fine/Sport/Baby weight. 100% mercerized cotton. 50 g/1.76 oz., 136 yards/125 m per ball. 21 balls: 2,856 yards (2,625 m). www.iceyarns.com

If you choose to use a thinner yarn held doubled as I have done for Yarn B in the bulky blanket sample, you will need twice as much yarn than if you use 1 strand of dk, worsted, aran, or bulky yarn (about 2,856 yards if doubling the Yarn B, only about 1,400 yards if using one strand of Yarn B).
By working with 2 strands of yarn held together as one, you can create a gentle gradient by changing only one of the strands of yarn to a new color at a time.
