Growing up in a city with public transportation gives you ultimate freedom, and it is quite empowering. Memorizing the system inside and out and understanding the map opens up your world to new neighborhoods, new opportunities, and new friends, even within your hometown. Knowing exactly which door of the train leaves you precisely at the stairwell you want to use to change lines, knowing which stop is best to transfer from the local to the express, or simply knowing where routes cross can turn navigating a big city from a headache into an adventure. These intersections bring people and places together, much like of the intersection of designer, dyer, and knitter.

We’re all at a transfer point now - we can decide to fight for the lives, safety, and quality of Black people and marginalized folks in our communities, or we can keep living the way we are. I believe no one is free until we are all free, and no one is equal until we are all equal, so I’m doing what I can to switch trains and do what I can to support Black people in our communities, in my personal life as well as through my small business.

This squishy triangle shawl is worked from the top down, with increases worked on the outer edges and along the center spine to form the classic triangle shape. Simple garter and slipped stitches form a subtle but graphic pattern. Gauge is not mandatory for this project, and the pattern will work with a variety of bases in DK weight, two strands of fingering held together, and worsted weight yarns. If substituting yarn weight or working at a different gauge, please keep in mind that yardage may vary! As always, swatching will help!

As written, the pattern uses the two suggested skeins in their entirety. ANY changes to size or gauge will result in differing yardage requirements, and any increases of the final size will require additional skeins.

Earl Grey Fiber Company Oolong DK (100% Merino Wool, 231 yds 211 m / 100 grams (3.53 ounces). 460 yds 421 m total used, 1 skein each of “Samantha?” (dusty pink, color A) and “When Doves Cry” (grey, color B)

Please note: I used every bit of both skeins for this project. Please check yardage on skeins you plan on using/buying, or reduce each Garter Section by one row.

NEEDLES
US 7 / 4.5 mm 32” / 40cm + circular to accommodate length

NOTIONS
2 Stitch markers, and one additional removable marker to indicate RS, tapestry needle to weave in ends.

GAUGE
20 sts and 26 rows = 4” in Garter Stitch, blocked

Backwards Loop Cast On (BLCO; as increase), M1R and M1L increases, slipped stitches, I-cord tab cast-on (see below!), ktbl, k2tog, k2togtbl, k3togtbl.
