From the pattern description:
Every season each new fashion story offers a reinvention of denim. This cushion invites you to experiment with the knitting equivalent of denim. Lines of bleach are dribbled across neat stripes and left until the colour lifts, giving a rough, checkered effect. However, you can leave the bleach bottle in the bathroom cupboard and just enjoy the denim.
