Travel Buddy
When my husband and I travel, we try to stop at yarn stores and pick up a skein of sock yarn so I can make us matching socks. Socks are great knitting for travelling because they’re small and portable. I designed this pattern with travel knitting in mind, just a simple two round repeat to keep it from being too boring. I actually knit the samples while travelling to quite a few places! The yarn for these socks came from a trip to Moab, UT (brown) and Iceland (yellow).
Skill Level: Advanced Beginner.
Finished Size: Adult S (M, L) 7.25 (8, 8.75)” around unstretched.
Yarn: Fingering weight. 270 (350, 415) yds, 65 (80, 100) g.
Needles: US1 (2.25mm) circular needles, 32” or greater for magic loop, or double-pointed needles. Adjust needle size if necessary to obtain gauge.
Notions: Removable stitch markers, darning needle.
Gauge: 32 stitches x 48 rows in 4” x 4” in stockinette in the round.
NOTES
These socks are constructed from the top down. Once the ribbing is completed, the leg is mostly worked in stockinette with a slipped stitch rib design element. Traditional heel flap and gusset are used, but you can feel free to use your preferred heel method. The foot it worked as necessary, keeping the slipped stitch rib until the toe.
