Trifle Crochet Sweater

An oversized crochet pullover with a rhythmic stitch pattern of double crochets and chain spaces, designed to showcase self-striping cake yarn. No color changes required… the yarn does the gradient work while you focus on the stitches. Designed by Marly Bird and Robyn Chachula.

SKILL LEVEL: Adventurous Beginner

SIZING:
XS/S (M, L, XL, 2X, 3/4X, 5X) with 6 to 15” 15 to 38 cm of positive ease. Sample is the L size on a 45” bust with 7” of positive ease. Sweater is designed to be oversized… if you are between two sizes and prefer a tighter fit, size down.

GAUGE:
BLOCKED: 2 stitch repeats (10 dc + 4 ch-2 sps) and 8 rows in stitch pattern = 5.75” 15 cm by 4” 10 cm
Use any size hook to obtain gauge.

YARN:
Caron Macchiato Cake Yarn (80% acrylic / 20% wool, 481 yd / 440 m, 8 oz / 227 g, CYCA #5 Bulky), 2 (2, 3, 3, 3, 3, 4) cakes. Sample color: Soulful.

HOOK:
US J/10 6.0 mm or hook needed to obtain gauge.

NOTIONS:
Stitch markers, tapestry needle, blocking mats, blocking pins.

TECHNIQUES USED:
Foundation single crochet (fsc), stacked double crochet, double crochet 2 together (dc2tog), double crochet treble crochet together (dctrtog), neck decrease, single crochet 2 together (sc2tog), split single crochet.

CONSTRUCTION:
Sweater is worked in flat panels (back and front) and seamed. Collar, ribbing, and cap sleeves are then crocheted directly onto the seamed sweater body. Neckline shaping instructions are broken out by size grouping (XS/S • M-XL • 2X-5X • 3/4X) so you follow only what applies to your size.
