A simple, straightforward sweater in one of my favourite colours – rusty brown, like the seaweed on the beach. The soft, rustic yarn makes it light and warm.

Method:
The sweater is worked in rounds on circular needles from the top down, with a slightly raised back neck shaped using
short rows. The back is slightly longer than the front and the sweater has slits at the bottom of each side that overlap slightly and are worked in rows (see detail photo on next page). The sleeves are worked in rounds on DPNs.

SIZES: S (M, L, 1X, 2X, 3X)

Yarn quantities:
350g (12¼oz) 400g (14oz) 400g (14oz) 450g (15¾oz) 500g (17½oz) 550g (19½oz)

Yarn: 4-ply (fingering) yarn, Hebridean Colours from The Birlinn Yarn Company; 50g/1¾oz/150m/164yds
Shade: Moor

Needles: 3.5mm (UK 9/10, US 4) circular needles for ribbing at neck and 4mm (UK 8, US 6) circular needles for bottom border and rest of sweater, 3.5mm (UK 9/10, US 4) DPNs and 4mm (UK 8, US 6) DPNs for sleeves

Tension (gauge): 21 sts × 28 rows in pattern on 4mm (UK 8, US 6) needles = 10 × 10cm (4 × 4in)

Other: markers, spare yarn for setting aside the stitches of the sleeves, darning needle for fastening off ends
