We’ve all become used to eating outdoors more than ever, but sometimes outdoor seating could use a little more comfort. This cute reversible seat pad will help take the heat OR the cold out of outdoor seating, and can easily be folded and carried in your bag. The Tropical Seat Pad is worked flat as a rectangle, then folded and seamed along 3 sides to make a double-layered, reversible square. The chair pad is finished with optional simple garter stitch ties for attachment to a chair. The pattern is ideal for those new to working with several colours, as only one colour is worked at a time.

Only one set of knitting needles (3.5mm/US4) are required, and the pattern is perfect for using up smaller amounts of fingering weight yarn. The pattern was originally published in the UK magazine ‘Your Knitting & Crochet’ in July 2021, and written and charted instructions are included.

Yarn
Fingering weight yarn in 5 or 6 colours (depending on whether one or two Main Colours are used.) Sample shown worked in White (MC1), Grey (MC2), Green (A), Orange (B), Pink (C) and Yellow (D) acrylic or polyester yarn. 80m/88yds of each colour used; if using only one MC around 100m/110yds of this shade should suffice. Also required is a tapestry needle/knitter’s sewing needle to seam the sides together.

Using fingering weight yarn with this pattern creates a final square of 30cm/12” - however if you wish to have a larger seat pad, you can use thicker yarn and needles - just remember that the amount of yarn you need will vary if you choose this adaptation.
