This shawl is a culmination of my love of lace knitting and luxury fibers. Qiviut is a fiber so well known in the Arctic that I felt it was only fitting to use this region as the inspiration for the project. I wanted to emulate the attributes of the land’s iconic scenery, so I designed the shawl to feature snowflakes, pine trees, and winding rivers. Knit with a mix of motifs inspired by Orenburg and Shetland, and using a garter stitch base, this is a shawl you could imagine wearing on a freezing Arctic morning!

  • 2 sets of US 3 (3.25 mm) circular needles
  • Tapestry needle, waste yarn

Notes
This shawl is worked in two pieces. The edging is knit with the rest of the shawl. You will first make the edging at the bottom of the shawl, pick up stitches, work the border, and work the main section. The edging and border are then repeated as a separate piece, and the two pieces are grafted together.
