Turtle-y Cool
This big Squishy Turtle toy is knitted in aran yarns, with a patchwork shell created from hexagon and half- hexagon shapes. This knitting pattern also incorporates i-cord, short row shaping and Kitchener stitch grafting.
Designed by Amanda Berry @fluffandfuzz, most pieces for the turtle are knitted in acrylic DK yarns on single pointed needles (not in the round), and shell trim is knitted i-cord worked on the two DPNs.
NEEDLES
A pair each of 4mm single pointed knitting needles and DPNs (US 6).
RECOMMENDED YARN
Sirdar Hayfield Bonus Aran; double knitting/light worsted weight; 100% acrylic; one 100g/295m skein in each shade.
NOTIONS
Tapestry needle, toy filling, stitch markers, and domed buttons for eyes.
SIZES
One size only - 37cm long (head to tail) x 37cm wide (from tips of flippers across) x 15cm tall.
TECHNIQUES
For intermediate knitters and above, other techniques used include casting on and off, knits, purls, increases and decreases, and seaming to finish.
