Tutty rug
Mrs. Iva Buttery, of Camberwell, Vic, learnt the pattern for this exquisite rug from her mother, who in turn learnt it from HER mother last century.
A church talent scheme prompted Mrs. Iva Buttery to send us the directions for this tutty rug. Measuring six feet by seven and a half feet, it took her seven months to make. Seven-thousand-odd ends are darned into the back.
MATERIALS: 3 balls yellow for centres, 16 balls black for background, 16 balls contrast colors for petals, 6 balls green for leaves Patons Bluebell; No. 12 Phantom crochet hook.
MEASUREMENTS: The quantities above will make a rug approx. 54 in. by 81 in, the hexagonal pattern of 127 tutties, or flower posies, on the rug gives an embossed effect.
