This hat was inspired by an idea that I have been interested in lately of a world traveler who goes on adventures through rugged terrain. I wanted to create a hat that would look good as it kept your head warm; a piece you can wear fashionably in the city and in a utilitarian way in the wilderness. The hat achieves its extra warmth through the 2-color stitch pattern that helps pull the stitches together
to create a unique look.

This pattern is great for the confident newer knitters for it introduces useful techniques such as decreasing in pattern, slip stitches, and color changes in an easy to digest and interesting project. For those more experienced knitters this project is whipped up in no time flat and is a great place to experiment with different yarns and color ways. It would also make a special showcase of a small quantity of handspun yarn.

This hat uses two colors of yarn. Yarn A which is the more dominate yarn uses approx 100yds and Yarn B the contrast uses around 50yds.
Some great yarn substitutions are Cascade 220, Knit Picks Wool of the Andes, and Plymouth Encore.
