Pattern is both written and charted.

Sometimes patterns almost write themselves. This is such a pattern.

I quite often knit hats to test out yarns for gauge and pattern and colour combinations. Some I keep or gift, some I turn into patterns and many I give away.

The brown hat was just such a hat. I used it as the gauge swatch for my sons’ Christmas Vest. He did not want the hat so it will be given away.

The cream and blue cabled hat was knit with the left-overs from the project and is now my hat!

Both hats are quick knits!

Materials: Approx. 80 m (88yds) mixed scraps of a super bulky wool; samples were knit with Eco Scandinavian Bulky; 8.0mm US #11 40cm 16in circs and dpn’s, markers and the regular notions.
Gauge: cabled hat – 1 pattern repeat (8 sts) equals 3 inches; colourwork hat – 11 sts in 4 inches over colourwork pattern.

Sizes: one size – approx. 20 inches around – fits average adult head

Notes on Pattern:
Mix and match the ribbing of the hat to customize the fit around the head.
Pick your ribbing – 1x1 ribbing is tighter – garter ribbing is a much looser fit with lots of stretch
Pick your pattern – cable pattern needs approx. 35m of each of two colours, main1 and contrast – colourwork pattern requires approx. 30m of main and 25m each of the two contrasts.
