Tyrolean jacket
by Tone Loeng
This Tyrolean Jacket is my modern take on the embroidered cardigans that were so popular in the 1930s and 40s.
It is worked from the bottom up in one piece with a stretchy cable pattern that hugs the body, bobbles and embroidery for texture, and gently puffed sleeves for that classic vintage look.
The jacket is designed for a light wool yarn held double at a relaxed gauge, which gives you a soft but sturdy fabric that will last for years. I originally used Rauma Finull PT2 (100% Norwegian wool, approx. 191 yds / 175 m per 50 g), a crisp, woolly fingering‑to‑light‑sport yarn that blooms beautifully after washing.
