Under the Willow is a unique 3-spine rectangle shawl. Two panels of garter stitch sandwich a center panel of stockinette and lace. The rectangle shape creates an A-line shawl along the sides at the shoulders and a longer back and shorter front. A simple garter/stockinette striped band trims the edge of the shawl.

Wear as a shawl or knot in the back to wear as a cape.

Finished Measurements:

Overall width is approximately 45” and length from cast on to bind off at center of shawl is approximately 27”, blocked.
Note: The garter sections on both sides of the center lace panel create incredible stretch, enabling you to knot the shawl in the front. Alternatively, you can use a shawl pin to secure the shawl.

Skills required:

  • Knitting a Garter Tab (video link provided)

  • Knowledge of basic lace (yo, ssk, k2tog and sl2,k1,psso)

  • Reading charts as well as written instructions

  • Blocking your finished shawl.

Needles:

  • Size US #6 (4mm) Circular Needles, at least 40” long for working back and forth

  • (1) Size #10 (6mm) short needle or DPN for bind off

Notions:

  • (6) Stitch Markers (4 of the same for increases and 2 of another for lace insert)

  • Blocking mat and pins

Suggested yarn: Cascade Roslyn (pictured in “Sand”)

Approximately 750 yards of DK weight yarn (NOT including your swatch) Note: If you are a loose knitter, I suggest purchasing extra yarn. You can easily make this shawl longer by adding additional repeats before working the edging. See the projects for tester’s notes.
