As one of the four London based expats contributing patterns to the Mini Yarn Guide: London, I was inspired by the London public transport system, as well as my own Norwegian knitting heritage. These mittens feature patterns from the local-to-me Selbu mitten tradition, as well symbolism well known to all London residents. Something about these colours and pattern got me thinking about old vintage maps of the London tube.

YARN
Easyknits Squidge 4ply (330 m per 100 g skein)
80% Polwarth and 20% merino.

Colours (and grams / metres used in sample)
MC: Noir (24g / 80m)
CC1: Undyed (25g / 83m)
CC2: Lawn (2g / 7m)
CC3: Lapis (4g / 14m)

NEEDLES
3.0 mm (US 2 1/2) needle
3.5 mm (US 4) needle
Either DPNs or long circulars for magic loop
Adjust needle size if necessary to obtain the correct gauge.

FINISHED MEASUREMENTS
Hand circumference: 21.5 cm
Hand width: 10.75 cm
Mitten length: 25 cm
Thumb length: 6 cm
To be worn with approx. 1 cm of positive ease.

Mitten size can be adjusted by working to a different gauge, but please note this will change the fabric characteristics and yardage requirements.
