Are you ready to storm the castle? MKAL starts January 1, 2016.

Beside the deep and foreboding waters of Loch Ness sits what remains of Urquhart Castle. This shawl starts with the border, followed by a cabled band, then a mesh center.

Yarn
Lace or light fingering, wool or silk blend. You should be able to get a full square out of 1600 yards or the triangle from 800 yards of lace weight.

Size
Pattern includes directions for triangular, three-quarter square, and square shawl. Each shape has three sizes. Final dimensions will be dependent on gauge and blocking.

Gauge & Needle Size
Gauge is not important. Use a needle size that will get you the fabric you like. Please note that I knit lace loosely and block aggressively. Recommendation is 4 stitches per inch.

Techniques & Special Stitches
Casting on from both ends of the skein
Grafting in garter stitch (triangle only)
Cables
Centered single decrease (Bunny Ear)
Centered double decrease
Centered quadruple decrease
Shifting pattern repeats

Beading
Pattern includes information for beading instead of cables. For laceweight, size 8/0 seed beads are recommended.

Triangle: 750 (1100, 1250) beads
Three Quarter: 1150 (1600, 1900) beads
Square: 2150 (2500, 3150) beads
