Ursa Minor: Little Dipper's Sticky Paws
This pattern includes 4 pages of full instructions including a knitting chart PLUS a bonus postcard companion!
A special baby blanket honouring British Columbia, Canada. Named after the Northern Sky Constellation, Ursa Minor, also known as ‘Little Bear’ or ‘Little Dipper’, this baby blanket celebrates one of British Columbia’s most iconic animals--the Kermode Bear (also known as the Spirit Bear) which is completely white in colour.
I have created a playful, little carefree Kermode Bear enjoying his day amongst BC’s supernatural forests. Here he is--as happy as a baby should be--bib on and ready for his afternoon treat of a delicious pot of honey. Hurry Baby Bear, looks like you have some company!
My inspirations for this sweet little bear were both BC’s iconic Coast Salish artwork and also the incredibly embellished Pacific Northwest First Nation’s Button Blankets. This blanket is my own stylized interpretation of these art forms.
This baby blanket is made with lovely, pure Canadian wool and is a nice heavy weight for outdoor strolls. I teach you how to line your blanket with fabric and knot quilting, how to add faux button embellishments and also how to create and add 2-colour tassels for each corner of the blanket.

Ursa Minor: Little Dipper’s Sticky Paws is the first design in my series, Welcome Baby Canada!, aimed at celebrating each province and territory of Canada using Canadian yarn.
Each heirloom project features the symbolic animal for that province or territory in a playful way, incorporating many of my own mixed media applications (eg: applique, embroidery, knot quilting, textile paint and more!). I show you how to do these techniques in a fun and simple way.
Each project comes with a Postcard Companion which you can use when gifting your special creation to new baby.
From time to time, certain projects in this series will allocate a portion of the proceeds from the sale of these patterns for various causes (eg: conservation efforts for the animal featured).
