Utu cardigan
Sizes: XS, (S, M, L, XL, 2XL)
Pictured in size XS, bust 85 cm / 34”.
Utu cardigan may be simple on purpose, but it doesn’t compromise on style: the yarn is supercool light and airy brushed alpaca, the body is a bit cropped and relaxed, when the super long sleeves and wide cuffs can shine and make the cardigan as the ultimate fashion piece right now. If you don’t want that looooong sleeves, just wrap them or make shorter ones, and wear the cardi with high waist jeans or a dress – I love tucking the hem under the waistline. Choose your favourite colour that you want to wear all the time and finish the look with 5 buttons that suit to your own style - golden buttons never go out of mine. The instructions are intended to familiarize you with abbreviations, which will help tackle more demanding instructions later on so it’s pretty beginner friendly.
FINISHED MEASUREMENTS
Bust circumference: 95 (104, 114, 123, 132, 141.5) cm /
38 (41.5, 45.5, 49.25, 52.75, 56.5)”.
Length from neckline to hem: 55 (57, 59, 61, 63, 64) cm /
22 (22.75, 23.5, 24.5, 25.25, 25.5)”.
Upper arm circumference: 34 (37, 41.5, 46, 46, 50.5) cm /
13.5 (14.75, 16.5, 18.5, 18.5, 20.25)”.
Sleeve length from underarm: 50 cm / 19.25 in all sizes.
Choose a size with approx. 10-20 cm / 4” of positive ease at bust. The waistline ribbing is tighter than bust but it gets loser in use and the cardigan is designed for relaxed look.
WHAT YOU NEED
Yarn: 250, 280 (300, 320, 340, 360) g of Sandnes Garn Borsted Alpakka (96% alpaca, 4% nylon, 110 m / 120 yds / 50 g), colour pearl grey (3820) or natural white (1012).
Needles: 5 mm (US8) and 6.5 mm (US10.5) circular needle and DPNs for the sleeves if you don’t magic loop.
Notions: 8 removable stitch markers, 5 buttons (diameter approx. 2 cm / 0.75”), tapestry needle.
Gauge: 13 sts x 20 rnds = 10 cm / 4” of stockinette st.
Technique: The cardigan is worked seamlessly top down. First you work the yoke, separate the sleeves from the body and work both. Finally, you pick up stitches from the front and neck for the front panel from hem to neck and back and add 5 buttonholes.
