T A Robertson is a Shetland poet who wrote under the name of Vagaland. He wrote about everyday Shetland life in our native dialect in a vivid and insightful way. I was introduced to his poetry at primary school and became fascinated with names such as Peesterleetie, Terrie Mittens and Trunsher Face! The Vagaland beret is my tribute to him. It is a Fair Isle beret made using Jamieson’s of Shetland Spindrift. This is a close fitting beret but a slouchier shape can be achieved by increasing the needle size to UK metric 3.5mm after the completing the ribbing. Please pay particular attention to the required tension as my knitting is tight and neat.
