Valentine and Ozzy were the mystery critters we crocheted during the Monster’s Toy Box Valentine Mystery Crochet-a-Long in February 2016, now available as a standard PDF pattern.

Meet Valentine the Rhinoceros and her little pal, Ozzy the Oxpecker Bird. In exchange for a free ride and meal, Oxpeckers like Ozzy keep their large friends safe from harm by alerting them to any approaching danger. Isn’t that what friends are for?

They can be made in any yarn and hook combination you want. Just be certain that the fabric is firm enough that stuffing does not show through.

My Rhino and Oxpecker duo are made in Vanna’s Choice Solids using two colors:

• Pink (150 yards)
• Pink Poodle (45 yards)

Valentine is an advanced-beginner pattern. Skills you will need to know are crocheting in the round, single crochet, increases, decreases,crocheting in the bottom of a foundation chain and and some seaming.
