Inspired by the beautiful landscapes and rock formations of the Bisti badlands, De-Na-Zin Wilderness, and Ah-Shi-Sle-Pah Wilderness in northwest New Mexico, USA.

Three Size Options:
Small blanket is 29 by 39 inches (74 by 99 cm). A good size for babies and children.

Large blanket is 41 by 56 inches (104 by 142 cm). A good size for an adult throw blanket.

Both sizes follow the same pattern. The difference is that the small blanket uses thinner yarn and a 5 mm hook while the large blanket uses thicker yarn and a 6.5 mm hook.

For a Mini size, about 27 inches square (69 cm), follow the instructions for the Small blanket but skip Rows 68-99. The Mini size requires about 590 yards or 540 meters of dk weight yarn.

Skill Level: Intermediate. Requires chain, single crochet, and double crochet stitches in US terms.

Yarn: Light or dk weight yarn, CYC category 3
Recommended yarn: Lion Brand Mandala or Mandala Baby, 100% acrylic, 590 yards (540 m) per 150-gram cake.

Similar yarns include Lion Brand Mandala Baby, Lion Brand Ice Cream, Lion Brand Cupcake, Bernat Baby Sport, Sirdar Snuggly Pattercake, Ice Yarns Baby Cakes Fine, Premier Coffee Shop, Herrschners Pastry Plus, and Papatya Cake yarn.

You will need about 920 yards (841 meters) of yarn to make the small blanket. The small blanket uses a single strand of yarn at a time and a 5 mm hook.

The small size sample blanket (blues/greens/gold) used 1½ cakes of Lion Brand Mandala yarn in the Kelpie colorway.

You will need about 2,454 yards (2,244 meters) of yarn to make the large blanket. The large blanket uses dk weight yarn held doubled, crocheting with two strands of yarn at a time as if they were a single strand, with a 6.5 mm hook.

If you prefer to use a single strand of yarn at a time to make the large size blanket, you could use 1,227 yards (1,122 meters) of bulky or chunky weight yarn instead, crocheting with only a single strand at a time and a 6.5 mm hook.

The large size sample blanket (pastels) used 4 cakes of Lion Brand Mandala Baby yarn in the Diagon Alley colorway plus about 94 yards of yarn from 2 additional cakes. Lion Brand Mandala yarn is 100% acrylic, 590 yards (540 m) per 150-gram cake.

You can use any yarn you like with the hook size recommended on the yarn label.

Go with the flow of color changes- no cutting or controlling of colors needed. The sample blankets here used the yarn as it came from the cake with no cutting or changing the order of colors.

Shawl or Wrap Option:
Try using light, lacy yarn and a 5.5 mm hook to make a wrap.
Follow the pattern as written for the small size and repeat Rows 4-35 until desired length is reached.
