This crocheted bag design was inspired by the Roman wall built by Hadrian’s army, dividing England and Scotland; Vallum being the Roman word for wall.

The pattern gives two sizes: small is approx 19 x 21 x 15 cm (h x w x d) and the larger bag is approx 25 x 23 x 17 cm. A single 100g skein in each of 3 colours is sufficient for either sized bag.

The base is constructed from two squares to give an unusual pattern before the ‘stone wall’ design on the sides of the bag. The handle is firmly attached to the sides of the bag rather than just at the top giving extra strength and durability.

Please note that the instructions are written in English, so if you are used to American terminology a small amount of translation of crochet terms will be required.
