If you have always wanted to learn to knit socks, or you’re an experienced sock knitter, this is the pattern for you! With simple but elegant ribbed construction, this will become your go to vanilla sock pattern. Who doesn’t love a vanilla sundae?
This basic sock pattern will teach you how to knit a sock cuff down, explaining the construction throughout. It is worked in the round, using a basic long tail cast on with magic loop, a heel flap and gusset, ending with grafting the toe closed using the kitchner stitching. The ribbing continues down the sides of the leg, foot and back of the leg.
Difficulty Level: Beginner
Size: This pattern comes in 3 sizes, S (M, L). I find that for an average woman’s foot, the size M (64 sts) and for an average man’s foot, the size L (72 sts) fits great. If the sock recipient has narrow or wide feet, the pattern can be adjusted at the gusset decrease section.
Yarn: 1 skein of Candy Skein Yummy Fingering, or 400+ yards of an equivalent fingering weight yarn that contains nylon. (Sample knit in Candy Skein Yummy fingering in Apple-tini)
Needle: 1 size US 1 (2.25mm) needle with 32” circular or US 1 (2.25mm) DPNs
