Variance is a sweater knitted sideways with a stripe pattern that is achieved using short rows. The stripe pattern was inspired by a Japanese traditional textile pattern called Tatewaku that represents how the steam rises. The sweater for sure will go well with both a skirt and pants as the length of the sweater is neither too short or too long!

Needles

3.75 mm / US 5 circular needle with a cable length of at least 40 cm / 16” (or needle size to obtain gauge)
3.5 mm / US 4 double-pointed needles (or needles one size smaller than main needles)

To work this pattern using the magic loop technique, use a circular needle with a cable length of at least 80 cm / 32”.

Gauge

22 sts x 30 rows = 10 x 10 cm / 4 x 4” (knit flat, in stockinette stitch, on larger needle, after blocking)
22 sts x 26 rows (1 full repeat) = 10 x 7.5 cm / 4 x 3” (knit flat, in Stripe pattern, on larger needle, after blocking)
