Vass Elf Hat
3 different hat styles in one pattern, all 3 using the same construction with style variations and all in a light weight yarn for a light yet warm classic accessory.
First the beanie variation, a close fitting hat pulled down it will follow the shape of the head without distorting the ribbing as it will be stretched somewhat evenly all the way from the brim to the top.
Second the slouchy variation, this will create a perfectly flat top in un-stretched fabric so extra fabric in the top will lay more neatly than the beanie version that will have a slight point un-stretched.
Thirdly an Elf hat with classic contrast brim and pom pom at the point.*
Yarn: Heavy fingering to Sport weight yarn, slightly thicker than the average sock yarn, see page 3
for yarn used in samples
Gauge: 44 stitches over 10 cm with relaxed washed fabric in 2 by 2 ribbing.
Needles: 2.25 mm or size that gives you the correct gauge and a fabric with nice stretch and good
rebound after wash. Double pointed. For adult size+: 40cm circular as well.
Sizes: newborn (32-42 cm), toddler (42-52 cm), child/adult (52-62 cm), extra large (62 cm+), the hat
is very stretchy
