Vegr Vest
An all over tabard vest, knit in the round a steeked – edged with an icord and integrated buttonholes. Inspired by my culture and history as a Shetlander descended from Herring Fishers.
Materials
Jamieson & Smith 5ply Shetland (equivalent Sportweight): 100% Real Shetland wool; 115m/50g ball
Colourway 1: Yarn A: Rust Twilight 4 (4, 5, 5) 5, 6, 6 {7, 7, 8} balls
Yarn B: Turquoise Twilight 2 (3, 4, 4) 4, 4, 5 {5, 5, 6} balls
Yarn C: Mustard Twilight 1 (1, 2, 2) 2, 2, 2 {2, 2, 2} balls
Colourway 2: Yarn A: Dark Navy 4 (4, 5, 5) 5, 6, 6 {7, 7, 8} balls
Yarn B: Turquoise Twilight 2 (3, 4, 4) 4, 4, 5 {5, 5, 6} balls
Yarn C: Mustard Twilight 1 (1, 2, 2) 2, 2, 2 {2, 2, 2} balls
Set of 3.25mm long DPNs or circular needles or size needed to match tension
Set of 2.5mm long DPNs or circular needle or 0.75mm smaller than main needles, for hem
Set of 2.5mm DPNs or short circular needle or 0.75mm smaller than main needles, for neckband
Long 2.5mm (or 0.75mm smaller than main needles) circular needle, for picking up edging
2 short 3.25mm (or size needed to match tension) dpn for the I-cord
Stitch markers (with one different one for beginning of round)
Tapestry needle
Stitch holders or waste yarn
Crochet hook in same or smaller size than tension needles
6 buttons (20mm diameter)
The model has a bust measurement of 85cm and is wearing size 2 with 16cm positive ease.
Tension: 30 sts and 30 rows to 10cm over Fair Isle pattern in the round, after blocking. Please check your tension carefully and adjust your needle size accordingly. A knitter’s tension can vary quite a lot with the same needles used by another knitter – the needle sizes given are a guideline of what was used by the designer.
