This poncho is worked flat, as a large rectangle, from the front bottom to the neck and back down to the back bottom, all in one piece. Neck shaping happens during this, but is part of the single piece. It is knit in several blocks of different stitches across each row. You may use any weight yarn you like, but plan on adjusting the stitch count depending on the weight of the yarn you choose. The main body pattern section is to be about 20-24”/51-61 cm wide, with edging, and a vertical 2-3 inch cable braid up the side.

You can adjust the size depending on the yarn used, the number of stitches in the main body motif, and the number of edge stitches. You can also shorten or lengthen the poncho by the number of inches long you make the initial body measurement.

The garment needs 2 contrasting colors, as the contrast will provide the texture and woven look to the fabric. You will need about 7 skeins of fingering, 4 in the MC and 3 in the CC.

It is helpful if you have done a saddle join on the shoulders of a sweater, as that skill will join together one side of the poncho.
