The Victory Arch shawl is a tribute to my friends and family who have been affected by cancer. While working as hospice volunteer, I found that I needed the simple comfort of garter stitch as I sat, chatting and keeping patients and their families company. The arches in the lace at the end stand for the coming victory over cancer, hopefully in my lifetime.

I created this shawl for a fundraiser to assist a friend who is battling cancer, or as he calls it, “The Alien Inside Me.” The proceeds will be split between a fund to help him pay for treatment and the necessary travel expenses and our local hospice organization (http://nwcovna.org/hospice_and_palliative_care.php).

For a two-color shawl, you’ll need 400 yards of the main color and 200 yards of the contrasting color.

Approximately 125 size 6 seed beads are needed to complete the beaded bind-off.
